Wangmook Restaurant, Bangsaen Chonburi

Wangmook is indeed a large restaurant whose menu offers an extensive array of Thai-Chinese seafood dishes featuring locally caught fish, oysters, shrimps, crabs, and other local specialties. I’ve sampled the following tasty items during my recent visit to the restaurant, all of which were truly impressive and left me yearning to come back:

“The restaurant is located adjacent to a fishing pier where fishermen haul in their daily catches, fresh from the Gulf of Thailand.”

1. The Chinese-style oyster pancake, known in Thailand as “Orr Suan.” This dish has a Chinese origin and features oysters in a special Chinese pancake mix with beaten eggs, fried on a special large flat pan. These oyster pancakes are truly awesome when they’re enjoyed with Thailand’s famous hot and spicy Sri Racha chili sauce.

2. Crispy fried soft-shell crabs with plenty of crispy garlic tidbits, which is great when enjoyed with the red-hot Sri Racha chili sauce.

3. The intensely flavorful “Tom Kha Talay”, or assorted seafoods (fish fillets, prawns, mussels, and squids) in an aromatic, spicy coconut milk-based soup with plenty of galanga (“kha” in Thai), mushrooms, kafir lime leaves, and lemon grass.  The “Tom Kha” soup is among Thailand’s all-time favorites due to its intense flavors  (hot, salty, and sour) and its highly aromatic broth (a mix of coconut milk, galanga, kaffir lime leaves, and lemon grass).

4. Fresh, succulent jumbo sea shrimps stir-fried in an aromatic curry sauce with a hint of coconut cream.
